The breeze was blowing, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, flowers were in full bloom. On May 25th, 2023, Margaret June Cruce Diehl passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
June was born to James Henry and Lizzie Andrews Cruce on June 30, 1934, in Shaw, FL. Most of her childhood was spent in Mosley Hall, Madison County, FL where her roots ran deep. As a young woman, she began her fashion career at the Fairytale Shop. It was there where she met Raymond L. Diehl, Jr. and married in 1966. In 1976, she opened the Haystack where she blossomed into a local prominent businesswoman. In the 1980’s she and Raymond developed the Betton Place Shopping Center. After enjoying their time in Tallahassee, she and Raymond moved to Apalachicola, FL where she helped to open and manage the Grady Market. In 2012 she retired and moved to their beloved farm in Miccosukee, FL. She spent the reminder of her life enjoying gardening, feeding her birds, raising chickens and spending quality time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Cureton (Alex) and her son, Ray Diehl. Grandchildren, Delilah Cureton-Celeschi (Chase), Campbell Diehl (Lauren), Maggie Diehl, Hannah Diehl, Cannon Diehl and six Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond and grandson, Nicholas Cureton.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 15 th at 4:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Shiloh Farms on Benjamin Chairs Rd with reception following. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations can be made to Bird Song Nature Center, 2106 N. Meridian Road, Thomasville, GA 31792, and Goodwood Museum & Gardens, 1600 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
